Meet Maisha Howze

At a very young age, Maisha Howze was groomed to be aware of and empathetic to the plight of her community and those closely related. Coming from a big family rich in community service and activism, Ms. Howze’s upbringing exposed her positive building of her low-income neighborhood. This awareness raised a sincere dedication and commitment to the field of social services. The Pittsburgh, PA native holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Carlow University. She has worked in the social services field for more than 20 years. ​ Ms. Howze is currently the Assistant Deputy Director for the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health, Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services. The Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services is responsible for the planning, implementation, evaluation and technical assistance of contracted drug and alcohol providers in Allegheny County. The services provided are: Prevention, Intervention, Treatment, and Recovery Supports. Through this position, she strives to provide quality care to individuals and families in Allegheny County. ​ Ms. Howze launched In Touch Consulting, LLC. in August 2019. In Touch Consulting supports and guides individuals and/or companies in establishing needs for growth and development in four key areas: Program Development, Project Development, Training, and W.A.S.H. Project. ​ The first project released from In Touch Consulting is Ms. Howze’s inaugural book, W.A.S.H.: Time To Do YOUR Laundry. W.A.S.H (Withstand All Strife to Heal) is a self-help book with a workbook embedded. W.A.S.H. helps guide the reader through their journey of healing. ​ Ms. Howze is passionate about volunteering. As a member of Macedonia Church of Pittsburgh, she serves for varying events to support the community. She volunteers with 412 Food Rescue as a Food Rescue Hero. She has volunteered with the Pennsylvania Organization for Women in Early Recovery (POWER) for special events. Lastly, Maisha is a mentor to young women with similar life experiences. ​ Ms. Howze lives in Pittsburgh, PA with her twins Nia and Hassan, and her granddaughter, Assata.
